Comenius Trip to The Czech Republic

In May 2010, Rachel, Jordan, two pupils from the school, their mothers, Bríd and Martina, and Muinteoir Cepta, went to Libchavy, in the Czech Republic. This visit is the last Comenius visit in this years project. Luckily, the five were able to arrive and depart from the Czech Republic without any trouble from the volvanic ash. They got the bus from Galway to Dublin Airport and flew to Prague. They endured a 3 hour journey to Libchavy, where they met with their host families. On Friday of that week, they left Libchavy to go to Prague, where they stayed that night to see the sights. On Saturday, they left Prague and arrived in Dublin airport that morning. They arrived in Galway by bus on Saturday evening. They came to school on Monday morning and showed us the pictures they took and the souvenirs they bought. It was the a great way to end the Comenius Project.

Blarney Bubbles the mascot we originated with us returned home accompanied by a rotating story about his travels as well as scrapbooks depicting his journey through our Comenis partners countries- namely- Belgium, Denmark, Czech Republic and Hungary. It was really interesting!

Gala fashion Show

Our Fashion Show/ Christmas Concert 2009

On the 11th of December, Cashel National School hosted their Christmas Concert in their new GP room. This was a very proud moment for us as we have just completed a wonderful extension to our school. Every year, the pupils of both classrooms perform a Christmas play, but this year, the decided to have something different. A Fashion Show! Like every year, the pupils show the audience their talents which include singing, playing instruments, dancing and reciting poems. Some of the pupils from the school modelled the children’s line of clothing from the shops that provided us with clothes. Some of the parents and teachers in the school modelled – it was an excellent night and was thoroughly enjoyed by all! The clothes our aspiring models wore were provided by the shops listed namely: Oh! By Gum, Hehir’s, Gannon Sports, Well Wear, Eileen Boulger’s Bridal Couture, Glynsk House, Millar’s, Oughterard’s Clann-Nearly New Shop and Iomha in Spiddal.

We were also provided with accessories from Belle Blu. We also had a number of the staff from Hedz Hair Salon namle Andrea, Aisling and Julian, to style the models’ hair before they went on the catwalk. Additionally, make up artists- Loretta and Lee - beautified the models-(not that they needed much work!) mIle buíochas díbh!
With the models looking even more –beautiful, the fashion show became even more of a success! We had our local radio presenter and sports instructor for the school, Bernard Lee as the MC for the Fashion Show. Two of our pupils in 6th class were MC for the rest of our evening. We also had raffle tickets sold during the interval and had the raffle towards the end of the evening. There were many prizes that night brought in by pupils, parents and teachers so there were lots of prizes! We also sold programmes and calendars that the pupils produced with the help of parent Joan Audley. Joan along with Barabra our secretary designed our programmes for the night and the posters which were put in the clothes shops and local businesses. We would like to thank all the people who helped make the night so memorable and enjoyable.

Comenius Day

On the 18th of September, we will have our Comenius Day. It is also the same day as our school mass. we will be discussing all things Comenius and we wll have displays on each country. The

Welcome Back!!!!

Hey Everyone!!! Welcome Back to another year at Cashel School! This year, our new pupils are Gavin, Oisín, Niamh and Saoirse. We said goodbye to Lorraine and Niamh but we are glad to have new pupils in the school. This year, Caoimhe, Sarah, Eamonn and Roma are all in their last year of primary school.
This year, our school will visit Hungary and the Czech Republic. The 5th class students will encounter adventures in both countries. Jack will hopefully be going to Hungary and Rachel and Jordan will also hopefully be going to the Czech Republic. Comenius is an excellent project which we thoroughly enjoy.

Cashel Sports Day

On the 26th of June, two days before we break up for the summer, we had our sports day. It was a lot of fun and we enjoyed it very much. We had stations around the small school yard and we had group which, every 10 minutes, moved around. There was basketball, hoop shots, games department, tennis, table tennis, football, skipping ropes and a big parachute that the whole school played with. There was sooooooo much to do. Also that day, the new pupils who will attend the school came to have a look around. We enjoyed the day very much.

Write-a-book

This year, our school entered the Write-a-Book. One winner from our school was picked and Gracie Mc'Donagh won and went to the Galway Bay Hotel to collect her prize. Gracie tells us ' I had a wonderful night and in the Hotel, it was PACKED! There were hundreds of people there so it was pretty hard to get to the stage!' This was Gracie's 3rd year in a row to win. Gracie's book was called 'The Animals on my Granddad's Farm'.

Scriobh Leabhar Competition

Our school participates in the Scriobh Leabhar Competition every year. This year, we had 4 winners; From 6th class, Niamh Mannion with her book called 'An Cluiche Peile', From 5th class, Roma Joyce with her book ' Mo Dhialann Peile', from 4th class, Rachel Mc'Donagh with her book 'Bia' and from 3rd class, Cailim Higgins with his book 'Bréithla Míchael'. The award ceremony was held in the Ardilaun Hotel and we all had a wonderful night.

Comenius Partners Visit to Ireland

The week of the 11th of May our EU Comenius Partnership Members will be visiting our school from Monday 11th to Saturday 16th. Nineteen visitors will be arriving including two children.

They will be hosted by parents and teachers. A very busy and exciting week of activities has been planned for our Comenius partners. Our project is entitled- "Voices of Nature" so we aspire to introducing our EU fellow pupils and teachers to the Connemara environment. Additionally, we will show case the local history, flora and fauna as well as the culture and musical heritage of our area.

School Extension

The first stage of our extension is almost complete- just the final touches! We hope to be in our new classrooms when we return to school on the 2oth of April. All of our us, from pupils to staff , are really looking forward to this move.

Our Comenius Trip to Belgium 2009

This is the second visit as part of our Comenius E.U. Project with our European partners- Denmark, Belgium, Hungary and the Czech Republic. On this occasion, Caoimhe Dunne- 5th class pupil and her mother Caroline accompanied Múiinteoir Cepta- the Irish Co-ordinator. We set out from Shannon airport on Monday the 2nd of February at 07.00-(a.m.!!) and arrived at Charleroi Airport in Brussels, Belgium at 09.00. We travelled by bus, train and taxi to our destination Oppglabeek to our host family and accommodation. Here are some photos of our excellent Comenius Project.

Hi Everyone!

Hope you are all having fun in Belgium, even though you just landed.Here is some of the news from the Credit Union Quiz Yesterday:

The Junior Team came in 2nd place. They won pencil cases and in them there were rubbers, pencils, pens and highlighters.

The Senior Team came in 2nd place after 2 very hard tie breakers with Clifden B. The Questions to the first Tie Breaker were;

Roma: I just found out that if you want to add a blog to the account,you can add a video to it aswell! Just click on the button beside the eraser. You will have to save your videos to the compter you are using and then add the name to it. You will have to save everything you've written before you do anything with the video, you might lose everything!

2009 News

On the 22nd of December, our school made a radio programme. We had lots of songs, poems, jokes, stories and lots of other things that would be played in the radio programme on Christmas Day.

On the 23rd of December, we got our Christmas Holidays. We had a party, watched a movie and to top the day off, Santa Claus came in to visit us. We all got a present from Santa and we were really happy.

On the 1st of February, there will be a Credit Union Quiz. Our school will be entering the quiz. We are preparing for it already by having quizzes ourselves.

In February, Caoimhe, her mother Caroline and Mrs. Stephens will be going to Belgium as part of the Comenius project. They will be meeting the other pupils and teachers from the different countries.

In May, our Comenius partners from Belgium, Denmark, the Czech Republic and Hungary will be coming over to Ireland. We are very excited. Some of the pupils families will be hosting people from the different countries. We will be going lots of different places like Kylemore Abbey, Cashel House and Gardens and many more cultural and historical venues. We will also be having a Céillí Night.

Christmas in Cashel

Hi everyone! Everyone here is very excited. Santa is coming to the school on Tuesday the 23rd. He will bring lots of presents. Krtecek is very excited about meeting Santa. It is his first Christmas in Ireland.




We are getting our Christmas holidays that day as well. On Monday, a lady from the Connemara Radio will come to record us playing instruments, singing, reciting poems and lots of other things.




On Friday 5th, we had our Christmas Concert. We had lots of fun that night. We had plays, people singing, playing instruments, reciting poems and lots more.

Santa in the Sky

I go to bed

A Perfect Christmas

As I hear the sleigh bells ring,

and the fire's crispy sound,

The smell of mince pies filled the air,

and the chinese whisper went around.

As our stockings hung up high,

and the snow fell gently down,

the turkey roasted in the oven,

it's skin went crispy brown

When the chinese whisper finished,

it was very different from what it started

It turned into a jingle blob

What a perfect Christmas!

My Christmas Wish List

I wish for a bike with a helmet.

I wish for a book and a bookmark that I would never lose.

I wish for a chocolate Santa that is as tall as myself and to find a swimming pool in my backyard.

To find CD's and DVD's in my stocking. I also wish for Santa to take me away on his sleigh and bring me to Lapland where I shall spend Christmas Day!!

Our Comenius Christmas Project

Our Comenius partners are Denmark, Belgium, Hungary and the Czech Repubilic. We started of by making Christmas cards to send to our Comenius patners. We already got cards from Hungary and Belgium. The Czech Republican mascot is Krtecek. It is his first Christmas in Ireland. Our Mascot is called 'Blarney Bubbles' he is presemtly in Denmark.We hope Blarney Bubbles is having a great time as well. The 8th of December is a holy day here in Ireland so we had thge day off. We go to mass and for some families it is a family shopping day. It is said that is the 'First Day of Christmas'.
On the 5th of October, we had our Christmas Concert. We had lots of fun. There were plays, dancing, music, poems, singing and lots more. In the interval, we told everyone all about our Comenius EU project. We had a table and lots of information about it. Everyone enjoyed the night and it was very enjoyable!
Additionally, we are preparing presentation posters on ourselves for our teacher to exchange with our partner countries in Belgium in February.
We are really looking forward to learning about our fellow pupils in the above named countries and sharing our experiences with them. Furthermore, we have started to send emails to them so looking forward to exhanging ideas and gettting to know our EU fellow students.

Comenius

Our application for the Léargas Comenius Project has been successful and two of our pupils, their parents and our principal are embarking ont the first leg of our Comenius Project Visits. We begin our Comenius journey in Esbjerg, in Denmark on Monday the 6th of October. We are really looking forward to it. We will be accompanied on our journey by our mascot-
" Blarney Bubbles"!


Monday 6th of October we embarked on our journey to Esbjerg in Denmark. We departed Galway at 7.45 am.

Scriobh Leabhar

Our school has started to enter the Scriobh Leabhar competition last year and it is a great idea because it makes the children of our school think, write and learn Irish in a great fun way. Last year we had a winner from nearly every class. In Junior Infants, Rachel won for her class. In Senior Infants, Laura won. We had no winner in 1st class. In 2nd class we had 2 winners, Shane and Stella. In 3rd class, Rachel won in her class. In 4th class, Roma won. In 5th class, Lorraine won. Finally, in 6th class, Daniel won. Everyone had a great time and the event was held in the Ardiulaun Hotel in Galway. This year, we will take part again because we had lots of fun making the books.

Writers in Residence

Writers in Residence
We began an eight week programme with a writer called Geraldine Mills. This programme was called Writers in Residence. We had to use our imaginations to create great, funny and creative stories and poems. We had a great eight weeks with Geraldine.
A while after the programme, we turned lots and lots of poems into 3 sketches that we acted and mimed out in the Clifden Arts Festival! Lorraine, Niamh, Roma, Sarah, Caoimhe, Rachel, Jack and Jordan played parts in the sketches and are really proud of ourselves. We love the Writers in Residence!!!
